The Northwest Territories will issue extra nominations for permanent stay

Northwest Territories Receives 47 Additional Nominations for NTNP

This year, the Northwest Territories received 47 nominations for the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP).

This brings its total nomination rooms to 197, exceeding the original allocation of 150 before 2025.

The government of the Northwest Territories announced the increased allocations in a press release on 2 September 2025.

These new slots will be offered to eligible applicants from the 2025 intake period who were not initially selected.

Applications will be assessed based on the expiration date of the work permit.

Applicants will receive notification via email and through the NTNP Assessment portal.

“These additional 47 spaces will help address critical labor shortages in key sectors,” stated Caitlin Cleveland, the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment in Northwest Territories, in the press release.

About the NTNP

The NTNP consists of three application streams: the Employer-driven stream, the Francophone stream, and the Business stream.

The employer-driven stream comprises three categories:

Each stream has its own eligibility criteria and requirements that must be met by applicants (and in some cases, employers), which can be found here.

Foreign nationals applying under the employer-driven and Francophone streams must have a job offer from an NWT employer.

While the employer-driven stream requires an NWT employer to apply on behalf of the candidate, the Francophone and business streams allow foreign nationals to apply directly. Candidates under the business stream must have plans to establish, purchase, invest in, and operate a business in NWT.

Prior to 2025, the province had two intake periods for applications:

Intake period 1: February 27 to March 6, 2025.

Intake period 2: July 2 to July 9, 2025.

Like other provincial nominee programs, the NTNP saw a reduction in its nomination allocation in 2025, from 300 to 150.

Several nominated programs, including those of Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon, successfully negotiated increased allocations from the federal government in 2025.
