Stephen Miller preps House Republicans for Trump’s immigration overhaul in closed-door meeting

President-elect Trump’s top aide on immigration and the border, Stephen Miller, recently had a productive meeting with House Republicans to discuss the administration’s plans for tackling illegal immigration. Miller, who is set to become the U.S. Homeland Security adviser, was praised by lawmakers for his brilliant policy insights.

During the hour-long meeting, Miller emphasized the need to increase the workforce of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in order to carry out Trump’s promise of mass deportations. He also discussed cutting federal funds to sanctuary cities and states, a move that Republicans have long supported.

The meeting took place as congressional Republicans gear up for a major conservative policy overhaul through the budget reconciliation process. This process allows the party in control of Congress and the White House to pass significant policy changes with a simple majority vote in the Senate.

Miller highlighted potential border and immigration policies that could be included in a reconciliation package, as well as the funding needed from Congress. He acknowledged that these policies might not garner much Democratic support and would likely need to be passed through reconciliation.

One House GOP lawmaker revealed that there was an understanding that Congress would follow Trump’s lead on immigration issues. The lawmaker also mentioned the importance of messaging to the American people in order to garner support for the administration’s policies.

Rep. Ralph Norman of South Carolina mentioned that Miller discussed the possibility of tackling certain issues through executive orders, such as deportation. Other lawmakers emphasized the need for common-sense solutions to curb illegal immigration and reduce the burden on American taxpayers.

Despite Miller’s reluctance to speak to reporters after the meeting, it was clear that the administration is focused on working closely with congressional Republicans to advance their immigration agenda. Trump and his aides have already been in regular contact with top GOP lawmakers, demonstrating a strong partnership between the White House and Congress.

Overall, the meeting with House Republicans highlighted the administration’s commitment to addressing illegal immigration and border security through a combination of executive actions and legislative measures. With Miller at the helm, it seems that the Trump administration is poised to make significant strides in this critical policy area.
