Djokovic solving riddles while he opens to US

Novak Djokovic faced a tough challenge in the second round of the US Open on Wednesday, dropping the opening set to American qualifier Zachary Svajda. Despite a slow start, Djokovic managed to turn the match around and secure a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 victory to advance to the third round. This win improved Djokovic’s impressive record to 36-0 in the first and second rounds at Flushing Meadows.

Svajda, a 22-year-old from San Diego, admitted to being shocked by his strong start against the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Djokovic, on the other hand, confessed to feeling frustrated with his game during the match. However, he managed to dig deep and find his rhythm to come out on top.

In the press conference after the match, Djokovic explained that he goes through internal struggles on the court but tries to stay focused and solve the mystery of his game as quickly as possible. Despite his challenges, Djokovic still finds joy in playing and competing at the highest level.

Next up for Djokovic is a match against British left-hander Cam Norrie, who reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2022. Norrie will be looking to challenge Djokovic, but as Svajda pointed out, there are no major weaknesses in Djokovic’s game.

In other US Open action on Wednesday, No. 5 seed Jack Draper withdrew due to a persistent injury, while players like Jessica Pegula, Taylor Fritz, Emma Navarro, and Emma Raducanu advanced to the next round. Casper Ruud, who has struggled in Grand Slam finals, was eliminated by Raphael Collignon of Belgium in a five-set thriller.
