Canadian teen Mboko falls to Olympic champion Zheng at French Open

Canadian Teen Victoria Mboko’s Impressive French Open Run Ends in Third Round Loss

Victoria Mboko, an 18-year-old tennis sensation from Toronto, saw her breakthrough Grand Slam run come to an end on Friday at the French Open. Despite her loss to No. 8 seed Zheng Qinwen of China in the third round at Roland Garros, Mboko’s journey to this stage was nothing short of remarkable.

Ranked No. 333 at the beginning of the year, Mboko captured the attention of the tennis world with three impressive wins in the qualifying rounds and two more victories in the main draw, all achieved in straight sets. However, she faced a tough challenge in Zheng, an experienced player who reached the final of the Australian Open and clinched an Olympic gold medal in singles last summer on the very same clay courts in Paris.

Zheng’s dominance on the court was evident as she won 70% of her first-serve points and successfully saved six out of eight break points. In contrast, Mboko struggled with her serve, getting broken four times and winning only 38% of her second-serve points.

Despite the loss, Mboko’s performance at the French Open marked a significant milestone in her career, as she is set to enter the top 100 rankings in the Women’s Tennis Association once the tournament concludes. This achievement is a testament to her talent and potential as a rising star in the world of tennis.

As Mboko reflects on her journey at Roland Garros, she can take pride in her impressive debut in a Grand Slam main draw and use this experience as motivation to continue improving and striving for success in future tournaments. With her determination and skill, the future looks bright for Victoria Mboko in the world of professional tennis.
