Meanwhile, the G7 foreign ministers have united in supporting a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal for Ukraine, which has been endorsed by Kyiv and is awaiting a response from Russia. Lammy emphasized the importance of Russia accepting the terms of the ceasefire to pave the way for negotiated peace and security guarantees for Ukraine.

As the coalition of the willing forms to support Ukraine, Lammy expects both Canada and the United Kingdom to stand side by side in providing assistance to the embattled nation. With ongoing discussions about imposing further costs on Russia, including sanctions and support for Ukraine, Lammy underscored the commitment of both countries to defending Ukraine’s territorial integrity and independence.
