Daniil Medvedev’s recent outburst on the tennis court has resulted in a hefty fine for the former world No. 1 player.

The U.S. Open announced on Wednesday that Medvedev was fined a total of $42,500 following his behavior during the first round of the tournament. The fine included $30,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and an additional $12,500 for racket abuse.

The incident occurred when Medvedev had a heated exchange with chair umpire Greg Allensworth, who allowed Medvedev’s opponent, Benjamin Bonzi, another first serve after a photographer walked onto the court during their match at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The disruption took place during the third set, with Medvedev facing a crucial point.

Despite the controversy, Medvedev continued to engage with the crowd, even blowing kisses after being booed for his behavior.

Bonzi eventually won the point and the game, defeating Medvedev in a five-set match.

Following the match, Medvedev defended his actions, stating that the photographer’s intrusion was not significant enough to warrant a replay of the point. He also predicted that a substantial fine would be imposed on him.
