Kids by Babyganics sunscreen recalled over solvent health risks

A recent announcement from Health Canada has highlighted the potential risks associated with a popular children’s sunscreen product. SC Johnson & Son, Inc. is recalling its Kids by Babyganics SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen Totally Tropical in both rollerball and continuous spray formats. The reason for the recall is the presence of monoglyme, also known as 1,2-dimethoxyethane, in the products above the allowable limit.
Monoglyme is a solvent that can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled, posing potential harm to fetal development and the reproductive system, especially with frequent use. Health Canada has identified the affected products with expiry dates of November 2025 and April 2026.
Consumers are advised not to use the recalled sunscreen and to consult a health-care professional if they have used it and developed any health concerns. Health Canada is closely monitoring the recall process initiated by SC Johnson & Son, Inc. and will promptly inform the public of any new health risks associated with the product.
The safety of consumers is of utmost importance, and it is crucial to heed the warnings issued by Health Canada regarding the potential risks associated with this sunscreen product. Stay informed and prioritize your health and well-being when selecting sunscreen for you and your family.
