Friedrich leads 4-man world bobsleigh title race as weather takes its toll on Lake Placid track

Germany’s Francesco Friedrich is dominating the world bobsleigh championship once again, showing why he is a 15-time world champion. The four-man race at Mount Van Hoevenberg started with some unexpected twists and turns, including the cancellation of the second heat due to deteriorating track conditions.

Despite the cancellation, Friedrich had already solidified his lead with a blistering one-run time of 54.23 seconds. Johannes Lochner of Germany followed closely behind in second place, with Britain’s Brad Hall rounding out the top three. The decision to cancel the second heat came after Lochner experienced damage to his sled from sliding through bare spots on the track.

The race is set to resume on Saturday, weather-permitting, with Friedrich poised to maintain his lead and secure another world title. The competition is fierce, with athletes like Adam Ammour of Germany, Frank Del Duca and Kris Horn of the U.S., and Jinsu Kim of South Korea all vying for a spot on the podium.

In the women’s bobsleigh event, Germany is once again dominating the leaderboard after Day 1. Laura Nolte and Deborah Levi are leading the pack, followed closely by their German teammates Kim Kalicki and Leonie Fiebig. Lisa Buckwitz and Kira Lipperheide round out the top three, showcasing Germany’s strength in the sport.

The American team is putting up a strong fight, with Kaysha Love and Jazmine Jones leading the charge in fourth place. Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries and Emily Renna are close behind in fifth place, with Elana Meyers Taylor and Lolo Jones rounding out the top six.
