Georgia bill passes Senate is likened to ‘DOGE Lite’

The Georgia state Senate recently passed a bill known as “DOGE lite,” officially titled Senate Bill 28, Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025. This legislation aims to reduce costs and enhance accountability for state agencies by requiring them to review and update rules and regulations every four years.

During the voting process, Democrats opposed the measure, accusing Republicans of attempting to introduce DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) to Georgia. DOGE, led by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, is focused on streamlining the federal government. State Senator Emanuel Jones (D-Decatur) labeled the bill as a power grab, claiming it was DOGE’s way of infiltrating Georgia.

The bill also targets small businesses, mandating state agencies to assess the cost-effectiveness of rules and seek public input on the necessity of regulations and potential cost reductions. Despite the opposition, the majority of the vote was in favor of the bill, with Republicans leading the charge.

Republican Senator Greg Dolezal dismissed the criticism, attributing it to the current political climate in Georgia. He clarified that a similar bipartisan bill was passed last year before President Trump’s reelection. Democrats believe that the bill will effectively reduce costs, mirroring actions taken at the federal level.

The legislation will now proceed to the House for further evaluation and consideration. It is anticipated that the bill will continue to spark debate and scrutiny as it moves through the legislative process. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
