Tiff adds remake of Youngblood, Charli XCX -Drama to 2025 International Line -Up

The Toronto International Film Festival has recently announced its lineup of international films, which includes a Canadian remake of the classic hockey movie “Juggling.”
The revamped drama, partially written by the late Toronto filmmaker Charles Officer, is one of the 55 titles featured in the festival’s main program. The 2025 version of “Juggling” revisits the cult classic from 1986, this time with a black hockey prodigy played by Ashton James.
Originally slated to direct the film, Officer passed away in December 2023, leading to Oscar-nominated Canadian filmmaker Hubert Davis taking over the reins. Davis, known for his hockey documentary “Black Ice,” has brought his own touch to the project while honoring Officer’s vision.
The film pays tribute to Officer’s legacy, with Tiff programmer Robyn Citizen acknowledging his impact on the festival and the film industry. Davis has infused the project with his own passion and dedication, ensuring that Officer’s spirit lives on through the remake.
In addition to “Juggling,” the festival will showcase a diverse range of films, including the Ethan Hawke and Margaret Qualley-led dramedy “Blue Moon” directed by Richard Linklater. Other notable entries include “Erupcja,” a Polish/US indie starring singer Charli XCX, and “Left-Handed Girl” co-written by “Anora” director Sean Baker.
Tiff is also making a conscious effort to highlight animated films, with titles like “Space Cadet” by Canadian DJ Kid Koala and “Dandelion’s Odyssey” featuring four dandelion seeds searching for a new home. Animated films are gaining recognition on the global stage, with Tiff aiming to provide a platform for these creative works.
The festival, scheduled to run from September 4th to 14th, will kick off with “John Candy: I Like,” a documentary celebrating the life and career of the beloved Canadian comedian. With a diverse lineup of films and a focus on storytelling, Tiff promises to be a captivating showcase of cinematic talent.
