The NFL playoffs start this weekend — here’s a quick primer on every matchup

The NFL playoffs are in full swing as the contenders for Super Bowl LIX have been narrowed down to 14 teams. With defending-champion Kansas City and the Detroit Lions enjoying a bye, the first round matchups are set to kick off this weekend. Let’s take a closer look at the six games on the schedule:

Los Angeles Chargers (11-6) at Houston Texans (10-7) – Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET

The Texans, once a hot Super Bowl pick, have faced challenges this season with injuries to key players like Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has had his ups and downs, but Houston still managed to win the AFC South. They will face a tough challenge against the wild-card Chargers, who are hoping to shed their reputation as playoff chokers under new coach Jim Harbaugh.

Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7) at Baltimore Ravens (12-5) – Saturday at 8 p.m. ET

This AFC North matchup features two tough teams led by star quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson, the reigning MVP, will lead the Ravens against the Steelers and their stout defence. Baltimore is favored in this game despite missing injured Pro Bowl receiver Zay Flowers.

Denver Broncos (10-7) at Buffalo Bills (13-4) – Sunday at 1 p.m. ET

The Bills have had a remarkable season thanks to the stellar play of quarterback Josh Allen. Despite facing challenges, including the loss of key veterans, Buffalo secured the No. 2 seed in the AFC. They will face the Broncos, who have a strong defence and a promising rookie QB in Bo Nix.

Green Bay Packers (11-6) at Philadelphia Eagles (14-3) – Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings (14-3) at Los Angeles Rams (10-7) – Monday at 8 p.m. ET

The Vikings, despite their impressive record, will hit the road for the first round after losing out on a first-round bye. They will face the Rams, who have a high-powered offence led by quarterback Matthew Stafford. This game is expected to be a close matchup, with both teams looking to advance to the next round.
