The death of a 71-year-old man from Middle Sackville is being treated as suspicious, police say

RCMP is investigating the death of a Middle Sackville man at a home in the community Monday night.

Police said a neighbor called 911 to say they had found the 71-year-old suffering life-threatening injuries when he went to check on him at his Sackville Drive home just after 9 p.m. Paramedics and firefighters also responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The house is between Margeson Drive and Beaver Bank Road, but police have not provided a more precise location.

Copl. Guillaume Tremblay said the man’s death is considered suspicious.

Tremblay said he doesn’t know if the neighbor was reacting to something he heard or noticed when he went to check on the man, or if the victim simply hadn’t been seen in a while.

He said the neighbor’s call to police said the man was seriously injured, but police are waiting to confirm when the man died.

“The cause and time of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office, but when the neighbor arrived, the information they provided was that they believed he was alive.”

There is no information to suggest this was a random act, and there is no risk to the public, police say.

Tremblay said there have been no arrests and no suspects, but would not say what led investigators to determine the death was not random.

“The information investigators have gathered so far indicates that it was not a random act,” he said. “The details are part of the investigation.”

Anyone with information is requested to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
