Toronto traffic forces Utah Hockey Club to walk to Leafs game

The Utah Hockey Club Takes on Toronto Traffic

The Utah Hockey Club had a unique experience on Sunday night as they made their way to their first-ever matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team found themselves stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, which ultimately led them to abandon their bus and walk to the game.

Maveric Lamoureux, a defenceman for the Utah Hockey Club, expressed his surprise at the situation, stating, “I think that’s a first for everyone. Never saw that before.” The team’s bus was at a standstill due to the heavy traffic, caused in part by road closures following the Santa Claus Parade earlier in the day.

Lamoureux mentioned that the team would likely miss their pre-game meeting due to the delay, but they were determined to make it to Scotiabank Arena on foot. Despite the traffic woes, the Utah Hockey Club faced off against the Maple Leafs for the first time that evening, with the Leafs ultimately securing a 3-2 victory.

Toronto’s notorious traffic congestion has affected other high-profile visitors in the past. In July, singer Niall Horan and race car driver Lochie Hughes both resorted to alternative modes of transportation to reach their destinations on time. The city has acknowledged the economic impact of congestion, with Mayor Olivia Chow stating that it costs up to $11 billion annually.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford weighed in on the issue, calling the traffic in the city a “serious problem” that requires solutions. He suggested that reevaluating decisions regarding bike lanes could help alleviate some of the congestion. In response, the government recently introduced a bill that would require municipalities to seek permission from the province before installing new bike lanes.

Despite the challenges posed by Toronto’s traffic, the Utah Hockey Club made it to the game and faced off against the Maple Leafs in an exciting match. While the outcome may not have been in their favor, the team’s perseverance in navigating the city’s traffic underscores their dedication to the sport.
