Hannah Miller Shines as Toronto Sceptres Defeat New York Sirens
In a thrilling match on Wednesday night in Newark, N.J., Hannah Miller of the Toronto Sceptres made history by matching a PWHL record for points in a single game. With Miller leading the charge, the Sceptres secured a 4-1 victory over the New York Sirens, marking their fifth consecutive win in the league.
Miller’s exceptional performance saw her contribute to all four of Toronto’s goals, scoring twice and providing two assists. This remarkable display not only propelled the Sceptres to victory but also solidified Miller’s position as the top point scorer in the PWHL this season, with a total of 22 points (10 goals, 11 assists).
Julia Gosling also played a pivotal role in the Sceptres’ success, netting two goals of her own. With this win, Toronto (7-2-4-6, 29 points) moved into a tie for second place in the PWHL standings alongside Minnesota. The team’s impressive offensive prowess was evident as they extended their streak of scoring at least three goals in eight consecutive games, setting a new record in PWHL history.
On the other hand, the New York Sirens (4-3-2-9) continued to struggle, suffering their sixth consecutive defeat, with five of those losses coming in regulation.
The game’s intensity peaked in the second period when Miller opened the scoring with a powerful one-timer that found its way past the Sirens’ goalkeeper, Corinne Schroeder. Gosling then capitalized on a power-play opportunity to extend Toronto’s lead, showcasing the team’s efficiency with the man advantage.
In a flurry of goals in the third period, Miller notched her 10th goal of the season before New York’s Alex Carpenter responded quickly with a goal of her own. Gosling sealed the victory for the Sceptres with her second goal of the game, further highlighting Toronto’s offensive prowess.
With this win, Toronto extended their point streak to eight games and will face off against Minnesota in their next match. Meanwhile, the New York Sirens will look to bounce back as they continue their PWHL Takeover Tour against Boston at Buffalo’s KeyBank Center on Sunday.
