Trump details phone call with Turkish President Erdogan on Russia-Ukraine, Gaza

President Donald Trump had a “productive” call with Turkish President Recep Erdogan on Monday, discussing a range of topics including the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Trump shared details of the call on his TRUTH Social platform, expressing his satisfaction with the conversation.

“I just had a very good and productive telephone conversation with the President of Turkey, Recep Erdoğan, concerning many subjects, including the War with Russia/Ukraine, all things Syria, Gaza, and more,” Trump wrote. The president emphasized his eagerness to collaborate with Erdogan in efforts to bring an end to the “ridiculous, but deadly” conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump has been committed to resolving the three-year war between Russia and Ukraine, although recent peace talks brokered by the U.S. have faced challenges. Additionally, the situation in Gaza has been a focal point for the Trump administration, particularly following a deadly attack led by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Trump has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to show compassion towards Gaza, emphasizing the suffering of its people.

Reflecting on his past interactions with Erdogan, Trump described their relationship during his first term as “excellent.” Erdogan extended an invitation for Trump to visit Turkey in the future, with plans for Erdogan to visit Washington, D.C. as well, although specific dates were not provided.

The two leaders have collaborated on various issues in the past, including the successful return of American pastor Andrew Brunson. Trump highlighted that Brunson was released “immediately upon my request” after being imprisoned in Turkey for 735 days on terror and treason charges.
