Trump tells Newsom to ‘learn something’ during Alligator Alcatraz visit

President Donald Trump recently visited \”Alligator Alcatraz,\” a new migrant detention facility located in the swamps of the Florida Everglades. During his visit, Trump took the opportunity to criticize California Gov. Gavin Newsom for his handling of illegal immigration and suggested that Newsom should visit Florida to learn how to curb illegal immigration effectively.

Trump, accompanied by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, toured the detention facility and spoke to reporters about Newsom’s leadership. Trump stated that Newsom should come to Florida and learn from their methods, as California does not handle illegal immigration as efficiently as Florida does. DeSantis even suggested that California could use the original Alcatraz as a migrant detention center, but he doubted Newsom would agree to that proposal.

The facility, nicknamed \”Alligator Alcatraz,\” is set to open officially the following day and will house violent illegal immigrants for deportation. The detention center is located in the heart of the Everglades, surrounded by alligators and pythons. DeSantis authorized the construction of the facility on a 30-square-mile property in Miami–Dade County to accommodate 5,000 illegal immigrants amid the Trump administration’s deportation efforts.

The animosity between Trump and Newsom has been ongoing, with Trump and DeSantis criticizing Newsom’s leadership and handling of illegal immigration. Los Angeles recently experienced violent riots over federal immigration raids targeting illegal immigrants, with Newsom and other local leaders denouncing the raids and blaming Trump’s immigration policies for the violence.

During his visit to \”Alligator Alcatraz,\” Trump also discussed his relationship with DeSantis, praising their strong bond and giving it a rating of 9.9 or 10 out of 10. DeSantis, who endorsed Trump in the 2024 presidential race after dropping out, highlighted their close partnership and the support he provided to Trump during the campaign.
