Trump warns of ‘largest tax increase in history’ if Senate bill fails

As the Senate continues to work towards finalizing President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” tensions are running high as the fate of the historic legislation hangs in the balance. President Trump took to social media early Tuesday to issue a warning, stating that a failure to pass the bill would result in the largest tax increase in history.

Lawmakers have been engaged in a marathon “vote-a-rama,” with amendments being submitted from both sides of the aisle. The bill, which is nearly 940 pages long, promises significant tax cuts, increased border security, job creation, boosts to the military and veteran benefits, and much more. However, the bill faces opposition from Democrats, who are fighting against proposed amendments.

With a slim majority in the Senate, Republicans cannot afford to lose more than three votes. Senators Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Rand Paul of Kentucky have already voiced their opposition to the bill. Tillis, who recently announced he would not seek reelection, came under fire from President Trump, who threatened to campaign against him.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has acknowledged the challenges in garnering support for the bill but remains optimistic about reaching a resolution. The vote-a-rama is expected to continue well into the night as lawmakers debate the provisions of the bill.

If passed, the bill will enact President Trump’s ambitious domestic tax and spending agenda, which includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts. However, Democrats have raised concerns about the bill’s impact on green energy tax credits and Medicaid and food stamp programs.

Billionaire Elon Musk, a vocal critic of the bill, took to social media to denounce the provisions that would raise the nation’s debt limit by $5 trillion. In response, President Trump fired back, threatening to use the Department of Government Efficiency to investigate Musk’s subsidies.

The bill also includes $1.2 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and food stamps, along with a $350 billion infusion for border and national security measures. It aims to make sign-up eligibility for social programs more rigorous and change federal reimbursements to states.

As the Senate continues to debate the bill, the future of President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” remains uncertain. Stay tuned for updates on this historic legislation.
