Two arrested after police seize loaded gun, crack cocaine in Halifax traffic stop

HALIFAX, N.S. — A 24-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman are facing a slew of firearms and drug trafficking charges following a traffic stop in Halifax on Friday.
Halifax Regional Police stopped a car in the area of Avon Crescent just before 10:30 p.m.
Police said the driver provided officers with false information, leading to their arrest and the discovery and seizure of crack cocaine and a loaded firearm.
Sheldon Michael Bennett and Brianna Lee Weir were scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Tuesday on 11 firearm-related charges, as well as possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Their charges include:
- Possession of a firearm obtained by crime.
- Possession of a loaded firearm.
- Possession of a firearm in a vehicle.
- Possession of a prohibited weapon or ammunition without a license.
- Possession of a firearm without a license.
- Possession of a prohibited weapon.
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
- Carrying a concealed weapon.
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
- Storing a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations.
- Unsafe storage of a firearm.
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking.
