Two teen boys charged with overnight break-in, robbery at St. Andrews convenience store

ST. ANDREWS, N.S. — RCMP have arrested and charged two teenage boys, 17 and 14, following a convenience store break-in and theft in St. Andrews earlier this month.

Around 2:15 a.m. on Oct. 1, Antigonish County District RCMP were called to MacDonald’s Convenience & NSLC on Highway 316 where officers learned two people broke a window to get inside and steal liquor before fleeing the area.

Later that morning, officers noticed two people on an ATV driving recklessly around Antigonish, including on sidewalks. The driver allegedly fled when RCMP attempted a traffic stop.

Through continued investigation, RCMP determined the two incidents to be related and on Oct. 6, officers arrested a 17-year-old male they determined to be the ATV’s driver.

The youth was later released on conditions and is facing charges including dangerous driving, break and enter, mischief and offences under the Off-Highway Vehicle Act including driving an off-highway vehicle on highway, failing to wear a helmet and failing to stop for a peace officer.

On Oct. 11, RCMP arrested the passenger of the ATV, a 14-year-old male.

The youth was later released on conditions and will be facing charges of break and enter, mischief and theft under $5,000.

Both youths will appear in court at a later date.
