Tyson faces US$1.5 million lawsuit on alleged contract violation

Mike Tyson Faces $1.5 Million Lawsuit Over Contract Dispute

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson is currently embroiled in a legal battle with a Cyprus-based company, Medier, over a promotional contract dispute. Medier, which promotes the betting company Rabona, has filed a lawsuit in London’s High Court seeking more than US$1.5 million in damages from Tyson and his company Tyrannic.

The lawsuit alleges that Tyson wrongfully terminated the contract in order to pursue a fight with influencer Jake Paul, sponsored by Netflix. According to the suit, Tyson claimed that Medier breached their agreement signed in January, leading to the abrupt termination in March.

Medier is seeking the return of over US$800,000 in fees paid to Tyson, alleging that no services were provided in return, as well as US$729,000 in wasted production and promotion costs. The company claims that Tyson’s decision to back out of the contract was solely motivated by the opportunity to fight Paul, which ultimately resulted in a lucrative bout streamed live on Netflix.

In response, Tyson’s legal team argues that Medier breached the contract by failing to obtain Tyson’s approval of promotional materials. The 58-year-old boxing legend reportedly earned $20 million from his fight against Paul, which ended in a unanimous decision victory for the younger influencer.

The legal dispute between Tyson and Medier highlights the complexities of promotional contracts in the world of professional sports and entertainment. As the case unfolds in London’s High Court, both parties are expected to present their arguments and evidence to support their respective claims.
