U.S. farm feeds Christmas trees to goats

The town of Hanson, Massachusetts is offering a unique and eco-friendly way to dispose of your Christmas tree this year. Channell Homestead, a family-owned farm in Hanson, has been feeding Christmas trees to their goats since 2018. Owner Christanie Channell encourages people not to throw out their trees, but instead bring them to the farm where the goats will happily munch on them.

The goats at Channell Homestead enjoy eating the trees as a sweet treat that also helps naturally deworm them. To participate, simply drop off your tree outside the farm’s front gate, making sure it is free of tinsel, ornaments, ribbons, pesticides, and fire retardants.

For those who like to keep their tree up a bit longer, Channell Homestead is hosting a special drop-off event on January 11th from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can drop off their trees and then enjoy some quality time snuggling with the goats and rabbits on the farm.

According to Channell, the goats are very socialized and friendly, making it a great family event. After gifting your tree to the goats, you can spend an hour cuddling with them, which Channell describes as a therapeutic experience. She recommends bringing carrots to feed both the rabbits and goats during the event.

Overall, this initiative at Channell Homestead provides a fun and sustainable way to dispose of your Christmas tree while also enjoying some quality time with adorable animals. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to give back to the environment and create lasting memories with the goats and rabbits at the farm.
