Vancouver Whitecaps: Coach Vanni Sartini dropped by team

Vancouver Whitecaps Part Ways with Head Coach Vanni Sartini

After the disappointing end to their playoff run, the Vancouver Whitecaps have decided to make a change in leadership by firing head coach Vanni Sartini, just two weeks after their first-round exit.

The announcement was made by Whitecaps FC CEO Axel Schuster on Monday morning, expressing gratitude for Sartini’s contributions to the team since he joined as an assistant coach in 2019 and later took over as head coach in 2021.

Schuster acknowledged Sartini’s passion and dedication to the club, stating, “Vann gave his all to this club and city. He embraced everything with passion and enjoyed tremendous success along the way.”

Despite Sartini’s efforts, the Whitecaps’ playoff run was cut short for the second consecutive year in the first round by Los Angeles FC, leaving fans frustrated once again.

In his farewell statement, Sartini expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team, emphasizing the special bond he formed with the fans, players, staff, and community during his tenure. He also mentioned that Vancouver will always hold a special place in his heart.

During his time as head coach, Sartini helped the Whitecaps secure three playoff appearances in four seasons and clinched three consecutive Telus Canadian Championships. His overall record stood at 57 wins, 51 losses, and 39 draws across all competitions.

Schuster emphasized that the decision to part ways with Sartini was made after careful consideration, with the aim of bringing fresh energy and leadership to the team. The search for the next Whitecaps coach is already underway.
