According to a Homeland Security spokesperson, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported nearly 200,000 individuals since President Donald Trump returned to office in January. This puts the agency on track to record its highest number of removals in a decade.
Between January and August 27, 2025, ICE removed 199,600 individuals from the U.S. In comparison, during the last three months of former President Biden’s term, ICE deported 71,405 people.
With these figures, ICE is projected to reach around 271,000 deportations by the end of the federal Fiscal Year 2025 on September 30.
During the previous fiscal year, ICE removed 271,484 individuals, marking the highest number since FY2014 under former President Barack Obama.
Key Statistics and Insights
Of the individuals removed last fiscal year, approximately 33% had criminal histories. This included 47,885 with charges or convictions for assault, 16,552 for sexual assaults and offenses, and 2,699 for homicides.
Additionally, 237 of those removed were known or suspected terrorists, marking a 70.5% increase compared to the previous fiscal year.
White House border czar Tom Homan emphasized that operations are being ramped up across the country, with a particular focus on sanctuary cities where public safety threats are being released into the country.
Continued Enforcement Efforts
A senior Department of Homeland Security official noted that total deportations from all federal agencies have reached nearly 350,000, signaling ongoing efforts to address illegal immigration.
The official highlighted that President Trump and Secretary Noem have prioritized the enforcement of immigration laws, leading to historic progress in arresting and deporting illegal aliens.
Furthermore, the official mentioned that the message to leave the country voluntarily or face consequences is resonating with migrants, as evidenced by a decrease in migration through certain routes.
Conclusion
The heightened enforcement actions by ICE and other federal agencies reflect the administration’s commitment to upholding immigration laws and protecting national security. As deportations continue to rise, the debate over immigration policies is likely to remain a central issue in the political landscape.
