Wimbledon: Canada’s Rebecca Marino wins second round match

BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom –

Canadian Rebecca Marino defeated American Emina Bektas 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (1) on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the Rothesay Classic.

Marino, from Vancouver, took two hours and 15 minutes to win the second round at the Wimbledon warm-up event. She had a 21-11 lead in aces.

The 32-year-old Canadian is currently 90th in the WTA Tour rankings. Next, she will face 39th seed Lin Zhu from China, who defeated Poland’s Magda Linette 6-3, 6-0.

The grass tournament at the WTA250 level will continue through Sunday.
