Wisconsin mom urges Trump admin to launch ‘pivotal’ probe into alleged race-based discrimination against son

An official civil rights complaint has been filed with the Trump administration, urging action in defense of a Wisconsin mother who alleges her son, who is White, was denied the extra learning attention he needed due to a policy that prioritizes additional help for students based on race. The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) filed a Title VI civil rights complaint against the Green Bay Area Public School District after Colbey Decker claimed that the district’s policy violated the U.S. Constitution and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

According to WILL, Mrs. Decker’s son, who has dyslexia, was denied reading resources because of his race. The district’s ‘School Success Plan’ explicitly stated that it prioritizes some racial groups over others, a message that was confirmed by a school principal during a meeting with Mrs. Decker. This discriminatory practice goes against President Trump’s recent directive to ensure colorblind treatment of all students in educational settings.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Decker expressed her disappointment with the unequal treatment her son received. She emphasized the importance of treating all children equally and without regard to their race. The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, however, declined to confirm the complaint.

WILL has called on the federal government to investigate and address the injustice faced by Mrs. Decker’s son. The organization’s Associate Counsel, Lauren Gruel, highlighted the urgent need for a color-blind policy that gives all children access to essential resources. The Green Bay Area Public School District has yet to comment on the matter, stating that they need time to review the situation.

The complaint asserts that the district has failed to take any action to end its discriminatory practices and urges the Department of Education to promptly investigate the allegations, remedy unlawful policies, and provide appropriate relief. It is essential to address such injustices in educational settings to ensure that all children have equal opportunities for success.

As the case unfolds, it is crucial for educational institutions to uphold principles of equality and fairness in providing support to students. Discriminatory practices have no place in a modern society that values diversity and inclusion. By addressing and rectifying such issues, we can create a more equitable and just educational system for all students.
