3 dead, 3 injured in separate crashes on Highway 101 over long weekend
Three people died and three others were injured in separate crashes in Kings County over the Thanksgiving weekend.
According to an RCMP news release, emergency crews were called to a five-vehicle collision at 8:36 a.m. AT on Saturday on Highway 101 in Wolfville, N.S. Police say a transport truck travelling east struck four vehicles that were stopped for construction on the highway.
Two occupants of an SUV, a 62-year-old woman and a child from East Kingston, were pronounced dead at the scene. A third occupant of the vehicle, a 40-year-old woman, was transported to hospital by LifeFlight with life-threatening injuries.
RCMP say no other injuries were reported.
Emergency personnel responded Monday at 3:50 p.m. to another collision on Highway 101 in Berwick involving a westbound SUV and an eastbound pickup truck. A 38-year-old Middleton man, the driver and sole occupant of the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
The 49-year-old driver and 19-year-old passenger of the pickup were taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
Highway 101 was closed for several hours after both collisions. Investigations into the crashes are ongoing.
