Mom’s fight with school over daughter’s gender transition gets parents group’s support

The American Parents Coalition (APC) has thrown its support behind the Littlejohn family in a lawsuit against a Florida middle school accused of secretly socially transitioning their 13-year-old daughter. The group filed a brief in the 11th Circuit Court, arguing that parents have a right to be informed about any treatments a school administers to their minor child.
The Littlejohn family filed the suit against the Leon County School Board, claiming that the school took it upon themselves to socially transition their daughter without their knowledge or consent. January Littlejohn, who was a guest of President Donald Trump at a joint session of Congress, expressed how this action had a detrimental effect on her daughter and their family. She explained that the school went beyond simply changing her daughter’s name and pronouns, delving into invasive discussions about bathrooms, locker rooms, and overnight trips.
Despite the school’s behavior, the Littlejohns’ daughter has since worked through her gender confusion. However, January shared that the incident created a significant divide between them that took years to repair. The 11th Circuit Court ruled against the Littlejohns, stating that the incident did not violate their due process rights. Following this, the Littlejohns appealed to have their case heard by the entire 11th Circuit Court, with the APC joining in support of their lawsuit.
In the brief filed by APC, the group argues that social transitioning is a form of medical treatment that should not be taken lightly. They emphasize that parents should be involved in the medical process from the very first step and walk with their children through the challenges of growing up. APC’s Executive Director, Alleigh Marré, stated that the group is committed to supporting parents and families and ensuring that nothing stands between them and their children.
The Leon County Schools have yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter. The APC’s involvement in this case highlights the importance of parental rights and the need for transparency and consent when it comes to decisions regarding children’s well-being. The group’s stance serves as a reminder that parents should be at the forefront of critical decisions involving their children, especially when it comes to sensitive topics like social transitioning.
