Ex-Coast Guard officer allegedly made death threats against Trump online

A former Coast Guard officer, Peter Stinson, was recently arrested for allegedly making threats to kill President Donald Trump, as per court documents obtained by Fox News. Stinson served in the Coast Guard from 1988 to 2021, where he was known as a sharpshooter and FEMA instructor.
According to an affidavit filed by a task force officer from the FBI, Stinson made multiple online threats against Trump. One of the threats involved a reference to Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Stinson allegedly wrote that Trump needed to be “[L]uigied” on May 9.
Stinson’s threats involved graphic details about using guns, poisoning, and knives to harm the president. He also mentioned not having the necessary skills for an assassination but hinted that he may not be entirely truthful about his capabilities.
The document also mentioned Stinson making references to the number 8647, which is believed to be related to a post by former FBI Director James Comey. Stinson self-identified as a member of ANTIFA and made posts indicating support for violence in political conflicts.
Stinson is set to appear in federal court for charges related to threatening the president. The case raises concerns about the role of social media in inciting violence and the need for vigilance in monitoring and addressing threats against public figures.
The arrest of Stinson highlights the ongoing challenges of ensuring security in a digital age where individuals can easily spread inflammatory content and incite violence. It serves as a reminder of the importance of monitoring and addressing threats in a timely manner to prevent potential harm.
