Trump says socialist Mamdani would ‘crush’ New York City if elected mayor

President Donald Trump is expressing concern over the potential election of democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani as the mayor of New York City, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stating that Mamdani’s “radical policies” would “completely crush” the city.

During a press briefing on Monday, Leavitt responded to questions about Mamdani’s victory in the Democratic mayoral primary, noting that Trump believes Mamdani’s policies would be detrimental to the city. She mentioned that there have been calls for Mamdani to be deported, though she clarified that Trump has not made such a statement. Leavitt emphasized that Trump would find it challenging to work with Mamdani if he is elected due to their differing values and beliefs.

Mamdani, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, recently defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other candidates in the Democratic mayoral primary. However, his refusal to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada” has sparked controversy and criticism. Liberal podcast host Donny Deutsch called out Mamdani for his stance on the phrase, which some perceive as promoting violence.

Despite the criticism, Mamdani has stood by his refusal to condemn the phrase, stating that it holds different meanings for different people. This has further fueled concerns about his candidacy and his ability to effectively lead the city.

The White House has indicated that Trump would be willing to work with Mamdani if he is elected, but Leavitt expressed skepticism about the possibility of a productive working relationship. She highlighted the stark differences between Trump’s values, such as common sense, law and order, low taxes, and hard work, and Mamdani’s purported communist beliefs.

As the mayoral race in New York City heats up, the controversy surrounding Mamdani’s candidacy continues to grow. With the election drawing closer, the voters of New York City will ultimately decide the city’s future and whether Mamdani’s vision aligns with their own.
