A Prince Edward Island Man Faces Terrorism Charges

A man from Prince Edward Island has been ordered to follow a series of strict conditions after being confronted with terrorism-related charges. The RCMP in Prince Edward Island obtained a terrorism peace bond for the 51-year-old man out of concern that he may pose a threat of committing a terrorist attack.

Arrest and Charges

In February, officers arrested the man, identified as Daniel Desmond Crowder, after seizing 3D-printed firearm components from his home. Crowder is facing eight charges, including the production of firearms, possession of computer data for producing firearms, and possession of a firearm.

It’s important to note that the allegations against Crowder have not yet been proven in court.

Conditions of the Peace Bond

The peace bond, which is in effect for a year, imposes 29 conditions on Crowder. Some of the key conditions include:

  • Wearing a copy of the peace bond when leaving the house
  • Obtaining written permission before leaving the province
  • Restrictions on internet access and possession of devices with internet capabilities
  • Prohibition on applying for travel documents and passports

Police Statement

The decision to seek a terrorism peace bond against Crowder was based on information gathered by the police, including comments made by Crowder online and the seizure of materials from his residence. In a press release on August 18, PEI RCMP spokesperson CPL. Gavin Moore stated, “Given the information collected from the investigation, police believe that this is the most appropriate course of action against Crowder at this time. He is now required to comply with the conditions of the peace bond.”

It is crucial for the safety and security of the community that individuals facing terrorism-related allegations are closely monitored and subject to strict conditions to prevent any potential harm. The legal system will determine Crowder’s guilt or innocence in due course.
