A knighthood is coming for soon-to-be Sir David Beckham, according to media reports

David Beckham, the iconic former England soccer captain and UNICEF ambassador, is reportedly set to receive a knighthood in the upcoming honours list from King Charles III. According to UK media reports, Beckham will be honored for his exceptional soccer career and his contributions to British society.
If the reports are true, Beckham will be known as “Sir David,” while his wife Victoria Beckham will be referred to as “Lady Beckham.” This knighthood will be an addition to Beckham’s previous accolades, including the Order of the British Empire (OBE) he received in 2003 for his services to soccer. Victoria Beckham also received an OBE for her contributions to the fashion industry in a later Honours list.
Honours are typically awarded twice a year in the UK, during New Year’s and the King’s birthday in June. Recommendations for honours are primarily made by the government, with input from the monarch. While Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office and Buckingham Palace have not confirmed the reports of Beckham’s knighthood, it has been widely covered in the media.
David Beckham, a true patriot, holds the record as the only English player to score at three different World Cups. With 115 appearances for the England national team and 59 captaincies, Beckham is a revered figure in English soccer history. His illustrious career includes the treble-winning campaign with Manchester United in 1999 and stints with Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite his success, Beckham faced challenges, notably after the 1998 World Cup when he was criticized for a red card offense against Argentina. In a Netflix documentary series released in 2023, Beckham opened up about the backlash he received and the emotional toll it took on him. The series earned him an Emmy award for outstanding documentary or non-fiction series in 2024.
Beyond his sporting achievements, Beckham is known for his philanthropy and charity work. He has been a dedicated supporter of UNICEF, with the establishment of the David Beckham UNICEF Fund in 2015 marking a decade of partnership. Beckham also played a significant role in London being awarded the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
If the knighthood is confirmed, Beckham will join a select group of British soccer legends who have been knighted, including World Cup winners Geoff Hurst and Bobby Charlton. His impact both on and off the field has solidified his status as a cultural icon and humanitarian, deserving of this prestigious honor.
