‘AI powerhouse’: White House encourages Americans to provide ideas for artificial intelligence strategy

The White House is seeking input from the American public on its artificial intelligence plan, with the goal of ensuring that the United States remains a global leader in AI technology. President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January that directed the development of an AI Action Plan, signaling his commitment to America’s leadership in AI innovation.
The Office of Science and Technology Policy at the White House is inviting Americans to share their policy ideas for the AI Action Plan by March 15. Principal Deputy Director Lynne Parker emphasized the administration’s dedication to securing and advancing American dominance in AI technology, stating that they look forward to incorporating the public’s comments and innovative ideas.
Interested parties can submit their proposals on the Federal Register’s website, and the White House is specifically seeking input from academia, industry groups, private sector organizations, and state and local governments. The AI Action Plan aims to define priority policy actions that will enhance America’s position as an AI powerhouse while preventing unnecessary burdens on private sector innovation.
The Trump administration views its focus on AI as a campaign promise, with the goal of revoking previous executive orders that they believe hindered AI innovation and imposed government control over development. Trump’s executive order emphasizes the importance of ensuring that AI in the U.S. is free from ideological bias or engineered social agendas.
This renewed focus on AI is not new for the Trump administration, as the president signed the first-ever executive order on artificial intelligence in 2019. Subsequent actions in 2020 aimed to establish guidance for federal agency adoption of AI to improve services for the American people and build public trust in the technology.
The White House officials underscore that the administration’s commitment to AI is grounded in principles of free speech and human flourishing. By soliciting input from the public and prioritizing policies that support innovation and competitiveness, the Trump administration aims to solidify America’s position as a leader in AI technology.
