Nova Scotia MPs Lena Metlege Diab, Sean Fraser named to Carney’s cabinet

Two Nova Scotia MPs have been appointed to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s new cabinet. Lena Metlege Diab, the MP for Halifax West, has been named the new Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship. Meanwhile, Central Nova MP Sean Fraser will take on the role of Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, as well as being responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
Fraser brings experience from his previous roles as Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities, as well as Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship in Justin Trudeau’s cabinet. The two Nova Scotia MPs are among the 28 ministers being sworn in at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on Tuesday.
In addition to Diab and Fraser, Newfoundland and Labrador MP Joanne Thompson, who was appointed as Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard in Carney’s previous cabinet in March, will continue in her position.
The diverse representation in Carney’s cabinet reflects a commitment to addressing the various issues facing Canadians. With Diab leading the immigration portfolio and Fraser overseeing justice matters, the government aims to tackle key challenges and make meaningful progress for the country.
As the new cabinet members settle into their roles, Canadians can expect to see initiatives and policies aimed at promoting social justice, economic growth, and a brighter future for all citizens. The appointment of Diab and Fraser to key positions underscores the importance of regional representation and expertise in shaping national policies and decisions.
