Halifax police warn of release of high-risk sex offender

Halifax Regional Police have recently issued a high-risk offender notification for George Durling, a 57-year-old man who has just completed his federal sentence for child pornography charges. Durling is currently residing at the Jamieson Community Correctional Centre in Dartmouth’s Burnside Industrial Park under statutory release.
Durling was convicted of distributing child pornography, printing and publishing child pornography, as well as engaging in harassing and indecent communications. These crimes took place in Truro and Maitland, Nova Scotia. Additionally, Durling has a history of prior convictions, including a three-year sentence for sexual assault in Manitoba back in 1992.
Furthermore, Durling has received two probation orders for separate convictions related to assault and committing an indecent act in Truro in 2019 and 2022. As part of his release conditions, Durling is required to stay away from individuals under the age of 16, refrain from consuming alcohol, and avoid using the internet. He must also disclose all relationships and is prohibited from contacting any of his previous victims.
It is important for the community to be aware of Durling’s presence and past offenses to ensure the safety of all individuals, especially children. Halifax Regional Police are urging anyone with information or concerns regarding Durling to come forward and report any suspicious behavior. Stay vigilant and report any sightings or interactions with Durling to the authorities immediately. Let’s work together to keep our community safe from individuals who pose a risk to society.
