Clark’s Harbour man faces 48 new charges after firearm pointed at police officer

A 54-year-old man from Clark’s Harbour, N.S., is facing a slew of charges in connection with a series of violent incidents that occurred over the course of several days. The man, whose name has not been released, allegedly attended a residence on January 4th and 5th where he made threats to the occupant. It was later discovered that he was prohibited from being at the residence and had an active arrest warrant at the time of the incident.

On January 6th, police were notified of a break and enter at the same residence. Then, in the early hours of January 9th, the man reportedly broke into a home in Lower Ohio, N.S., stole a vehicle, and brandished a firearm. The stolen vehicle was later found near Barrington, N.S., where the man pointed the firearm at a police officer before fleeing in the stolen vehicle towards Yarmouth on Highway 103.

Authorities eventually caught up to the suspect when the stolen vehicle crashed near the Yarmouth-Shelburne county line. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered and seized a loaded firearm that was found on the floor of the vehicle.

The man appeared in court on Thursday, where he was charged with a total of 48 offences. These charges include pointing a firearm, two counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of break and enter, and 19 counts of failing to comply with a release order. Additionally, he is also facing charges related to the previous arrest warrant.

The man has been remanded in custody pending further court appearances. The RCMP have not provided any further details regarding the ongoing investigation.
