Donald Trump Jr takes personal trip to Greenland after president-elect floats purchasing country

Donald Trump Jr. is set to embark on a journey to Greenland, following his father’s expressed interest in U.S. “ownership and control” of the country. The President-elect’s son, traveling in a personal capacity, will be arriving in Nuuk, Greenland on Tuesday for a series of meetings with locals, visits to cultural sites, and more.

“I’m thrilled to visit Greenland, a fascinating destination, as an outdoorsman,” Donald Trump Jr. shared with Fox News Digital. The purpose of the trip is to shoot engaging video content for podcasting during his day-long visit, according to a source familiar with his plans.

It’s worth noting that Trump Jr. will not be engaging with any government officials or political figures during his visit. The trip comes in the midst of President-elect Donald Trump’s interest in acquiring the mineral-rich and strategically significant territory of Greenland.

American interest in Greenland dates back to the 1800s, with the State Department exploring the possibility of purchasing Greenland and Iceland in 1867. Following World War II, Denmark rejected a $100 million offer from President Harry Truman for the island.

If the U.S. were to acquire Greenland, it would mark the largest expansion of American territory in history, surpassing even the Louisiana Purchase. However, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede recently stated that the country is not for sale.

“Greenland is ours. We are not for sale, and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom,” Egede emphasized.

Despite the President-elect’s interest, it seems that Greenland remains steadfast in its determination to maintain its sovereignty. Trump Jr.’s visit to the region will provide a unique perspective on the potential challenges and opportunities associated with U.S. involvement in Greenland.
