GOP congressman ‘remains concerned’ over ICE operations in blue state

Rep. David Valadao, a Republican from California, has expressed his concerns about the ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the Golden State. In a post on Tuesday morning, Valadao stated, “I remain concerned about ongoing ICE operations throughout CA and will continue my conversations with the administration—urging them to prioritize the removal of known criminals over the hardworking people who have lived peacefully in the Valley for years.”
The congressman also condemned the anti-ICE riots that have been taking place in Los Angeles, stating, “I support the First Amendment right to peacefully protest, but the violence and vandalism happening in Los Angeles is unacceptable and I stand with our law enforcement officers working to protect people and regain control over the situation.”
Valadao represents a highly competitive district in central California, with the Cook Political Report currently ranking the 2026 race as “Lean Republican” in his district. Reports have indicated that ICE may have been conducting operations in the Central Valley, resulting in tens of thousands of arrests since President Trump took office.
ICE is currently aiming for 3,000 daily arrests of illegal immigrants, including those facing criminal charges and convictions. President Trump has deployed National Guard troops to the area, leading to a dispute with California leaders. Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Trump’s actions, stating, “Trump doesn’t care about protecting Californians. He’s militarizing our state & provoking chaos.”
White House deputy chief of staff for policy, Stephen Miller, accused California officials of aiding and abetting an “organized insurrection against the laws and sovereignty of the United States.” Valadao, along with other members of the California Republican delegation, signed onto a resolution led by Rep. Young Kim, condemning the riots in Los Angeles.
Kim emphasized the importance of supporting law and order, stating, “Peaceful protests are a constitutional right, but vandalism, looting, violence, and other crimes are not. Protecting public safety shouldn’t be controversial.” She urged Governor Newsom to work with President Trump to stop the riots and keep communities safe.
The unrest in California has highlighted the divide between state and federal authorities, with tensions escalating before the National Guard was deployed. California’s policies have been critiqued for enabling lawlessness and endangering the public safety of hardworking Californians.
In conclusion, the ongoing ICE operations in California have sparked controversy and unrest, with lawmakers and officials on both sides of the aisle expressing their concerns and calling for action to ensure the safety of communities in the state.
