IAEA chief says Iran has material for warheads but no weapon program

In a recent development, President Donald Trump is considering joining Israel’s efforts to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities. However, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi has stated that there is no concrete evidence to suggest that Iran is actively pursuing a nuclear bomb.
Grossi confirmed that Iran currently possesses enough material for several warheads, but emphasized that this does not equate to a nuclear weapon. Despite ongoing military attacks by Israel on Iranian sites, Grossi believes that there is no definitive proof of a nuclear weapons program in Iran.
Inspectors from the IAEA have been unable to conduct on-site inspections due to the conflict, but have been relying on satellite imagery to monitor Iran’s nuclear activities. Grossi acknowledged the impact of the military attacks but emphasized that not all critical elements have been eliminated.
While Iran has accused Israel of targeting Iranian nuclear scientists and failing to comply with nuclear commitments, Grossi remains optimistic about a diplomatic solution to the crisis. He has been engaged in discussions with both US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian officials to explore potential pathways to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Grossi highlighted the importance of international cooperation and inspections to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He stressed the need to seize the opportunity for diplomatic negotiations, as the window for a peaceful resolution is narrowing.
Ultimately, Grossi believes that a diplomatic solution is achievable to address the concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. As tensions continue to escalate, international efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remain crucial.
