OnTrac data breach exposes 40,000 customer’s personal information
The recent data breach at U.S. delivery company OnTrac has left over 40,000 individuals across the country vulnerable to identity theft and fraud. The breach, which occurred between April 13 and April 15, 2025, exposed sensitive personal information including names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state IDs, medical information, and health insurance information.
Unlike stolen credit cards, medical data and Social Security numbers cannot be easily replaced, making this breach particularly dangerous. In response to the breach, OnTrac is offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection to affected individuals. This service can help alert individuals to any suspicious activity on their credit file and monitor for new accounts opened in their name. Additionally, individuals are advised to freeze their credit with all three major credit bureaus, use personal data removal services to reduce their digital footprint, watch for phishing attempts, and enable multi-factor authentication on their online accounts.
Monitoring medical benefits for suspicious charges, setting up account alerts for real-time notifications of activity, and using strong antivirus software are also recommended steps to protect against identity theft and fraud.
