Shelburne District RCMP have charged a 37-year-old man with two counts of attempted murder after a stabbing in Sandy Point, N.S., on Saturday night.
At about 9:05 p.m., police were called to a weapons complaint at a home on Sandy Point Road and found a woman with “significant injuries” who had fled to a neighbouring home, an RCMP news release said Monday.
Police say the woman, 56, was assaulted with multiple weapons by a man known to her. They were told she had also been assaulted by the same man the previous day.
No one else was inside the home at the time of either incident, police noted.
A suspect was found and arrested a short time later.
Police told CBC News this was not a case of intimate partner violence, but that the man and woman know each other. Police would not comment further on their relationship.
The man was also charged with forcible confinement, three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault and uttering threats.
He was held in custody and had his first court appearance on Monday in Yarmouth.
