Russia vows to rebuild warplanes damaged in Ukrainian drone attack

Russia has vowed to repair the warplanes damaged by Ukraine in a massive drone attack earlier this week, with an official claiming they were “not destroyed but damaged.” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that the aircraft will be repaired, as they were not completely destroyed. However, satellite images of Russian airfields show extensive damage to the planes.
The drone attack, known as “Operation Spider’s Web,” saw Ukraine destroy 40 of Russia’s most powerful bomber jets and surveillance planes in a coordinated strike that penetrated deep into Russian territory. Video footage released by Ukraine showed the parked aircraft being hit by drones and bursting into fireballs.
According to U.S. officials, up to 20 warplanes were hit and 10 destroyed in the operation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally oversaw the strike, which sources say was more than 18 months in the making. The White House confirmed that the Trump administration was not informed about the attack in advance.
In response to the drone strikes, Russia launched a “savage strike” on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, targeting the city with rocket artillery. President Donald Trump revealed that he spoke with President Vladimir Putin, who stated that Russia would have to respond to the recent attacks.
On Tuesday, the Ukrainian Security Service announced that Ukraine carried out a massive underwater blast targeting a bridge linking Russia to Crimea. This escalation of hostilities has raised concerns about the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The aftermath of these attacks highlights the growing tensions between the two countries and the potential for further escalation. As the situation continues to unfold, the international community is closely monitoring the developments in the region.
