Scott Scheffler injury: Golfer withdraws from another tournament
DALLAS – Scottie Scheffler Withdraws from The American Express Due to Hand Injury
World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has announced his withdrawal from The American Express tournament, citing an ongoing hand injury. Scheffler revealed that his right hand has not fully recovered from minor surgery to repair a glass puncture sustained over the Christmas holiday.
The injury, which occurred while Scheffler was preparing Christmas dinner, also forced him to miss the season-opening event, The Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. The American Express, scheduled to take place in Palm Desert, California from Jan. 16-19, will now be without the reigning Masters champion.
In an Instagram post, Scheffler stated, “After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week’s American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal.” Despite this setback, Scheffler remains optimistic about making his return at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which is set to begin on Jan. 30.
Scheffler’s absence is disappointing for fans and organizers alike, as the golfer is coming off a phenomenal season with notable victories at prestigious events such as the Masters, Olympic gold, The Players Championship, and the FedEx Cup. His remarkable performance on the course earned him the title of PGA Tour Player of the Year, and he held the coveted No. 1 ranking for the entire calendar year, a feat achieved by only a few elite players in the sport’s history.
