Major blue state offers to hire federal workers fired by DOGE

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has launched an innovative ad campaign aimed at hiring federal workers who were recently let go by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The campaign, which includes ads in Washington, D.C., and New York City, features a message of support for those affected by the layoffs.

One ad, displayed in prominent locations such as Union Station in D.C. and Moynihan train station in New York City, showcases the Statue of Liberty with the slogan, “DOGE said you’re fired? We say you’re hired! New York wants you!” The ad directs individuals to the New York state government’s website, where nearly two thousand positions are listed across various departments.

Following a meeting with impacted residents, Governor Hochul held a press conference where she criticized Musk and his team at DOGE, referring to them as a “clueless cadre of career killers.” She expressed empathy for the federal workers who were dismissed, describing the experience as degrading and dehumanizing. Hochul accused Musk and former President Donald Trump of neglecting the needs of Americans and the essential services affected by the layoffs.

Governor Hochul directly addressed the fired federal workers, assuring them that New York values their contributions and welcomes them into the state’s workforce. She contrasted the indifference of the current administration with New York’s appreciation for public servants who dedicate themselves to serving others.

Highlighting the availability of 7,000 public sector positions in New York, Governor Hochul emphasized the state’s commitment to rebuilding its workforce, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. She urged states to resist the DOGE efforts and promised legal action against any violations of regulations concerning layoffs.

In response to Hochul’s remarks, White House spokesperson Harrison Fields defended President Trump’s agenda, dismissing Democrat opposition as obstruction. Fields criticized Democrats for promoting failed policies and urged them to address issues within their own states before criticizing the administration.

Overall, Governor Hochul’s campaign signals New York’s willingness to support and hire federal workers impacted by Musk’s decisions, while also advocating for legal action to protect employees’ rights. The initiative underscores the importance of valuing public servants and upholding regulations in the face of administrative changes.
