NBA news: Michael Jordan to join NBC as ‘special contributor’

Michael Jordan, the legendary six-time NBA champion and Chicago Bulls icon, is set to make a return to basketball next season as a “special contributor” for NBC’s coverage of the league. This exciting announcement was made during NBC’s Upfront presentation in New York.

“I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC,” Jordan expressed in a news release. “The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October.”

After being away from the game for nearly two years following the sale of his stake in the Charlotte Hornets for over $3 billion in August 2023, Jordan has been focusing on his venture into NASCAR with 23XI Racing. Now, he will have the opportunity to be a part of the NBA once again as a valuable contributor.

NBC Sports president Rick Cordella expressed his pride in having Jordan join their coverage, highlighting his incredible legacy both on and off the court. Jordan, widely regarded as the greatest NBA player of all time, boasts an impressive resume that includes five NBA MVP awards, 14 All-Star appearances, and an undefeated record in NBA Finals runs.

Comcast recently secured an 11-year media rights deal for NBA games, with ESPN/ABC and Amazon also set to broadcast games. NBC will be streaming games on Peacock as well, providing fans with multiple platforms to enjoy the action.
