IDF kills Iranian commander who helped Hamas with Oct. 7 attack

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Saturday that they had successfully taken out an Iranian commander who had been instrumental in arming and funding Hamas on behalf of the Iranian regime. Saeed Izadi, the commander of the Palestine Corps in the Quds Force, was killed during an Israeli strike in the city of Qom. Izadi had been a key figure in orchestrating the unprovoked Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

According to BBC News, IDF Chief Eyal Zamir referred to Izadi as having the blood of thousands of Israelis on his hands. The IDF hailed the operation as a significant intelligence and operational achievement. This assassination comes on the heels of the killing of Mohammed Sinwar, the head of Hamas’ armed wing, in a joint operation between the IDF and the Israel Security Agency (ISA) at a hospital in Gaza in May.

During the operation at the hospital, Israeli troops discovered an underground command center, where they found documents revealing that Hamas had been in contact with Izadi in recent months. Correspondence between Sinwar and Izadi discussing a plan to arm Hamas with millions of dollars worth of weapons was also uncovered in the command center.

The IDF disclosed that Izadi had been sanctioned by the U.S. and U.K. for his ties to the Palestinian militant faction Islamic Jihad, which was involved in planning the October 7 terror attacks. Furthermore, the IDF reported that a second Iranian commander, Benham Shariyari, was also killed in a strike on his vehicle in Tehran. Shariyari had been responsible for facilitating weapons transfers from the Iranian regime to various proxies across the Middle East, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.

In response to these developments, the IDF emphasized their ongoing efforts to dismantle the military capabilities of Hamas and other terrorist organizations. They vowed to continue to thwart any attempts by the Iranian regime to arm and fund groups that pose a threat to Israel and its citizens. The IDF described the elimination of Izadi as a significant blow to the Iranian regime’s network for supplying weapons and financing terrorism.

This latest operation underscores Israel’s commitment to safeguarding its national security and combating threats from hostile actors in the region. The IDF remains vigilant in monitoring and neutralizing any attempts to undermine the safety and stability of the State of Israel.
