WH slams Dem leaders as criminally charged illegal immigrant remains free

The Trump Administration is once again clashing with Minnesota leaders over immigration policies, as an illegal immigrant charged in a criminal vehicular homicide case remains at large due to the state not honoring an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer. German Adriano Llangari Inga, an Ecuadorian national, is facing serious charges for drunk driving last August, resulting in a crash that tragically killed Victoria Eileen Harwell and injured her teenage daughter and sister.

The White House has condemned Minnesota Democrats for failing to protect their constituents and allowing Llangari to evade justice. Alex Pfeiffer, White House Principal Deputy Communications Director, criticized the state’s lack of cooperation with ICE, stating that “Democrats didn’t do their most important job: protect their constituents.”

ICE had issued a detainer for Llangari following his arrest for criminal vehicular homicide, but Hennepin County Jail released him without notifying the agency. Despite entering the United States in 2016 and being issued an order of expedited removal, Llangari remains at large due to the state’s policies on detainers.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s guidance prohibits the county from holding individuals based solely on ICE detainers, requiring a judicially-signed warrant for cooperation. The Sheriff’s Department cited their commitment to constitutional rights and working with federal and local partners in handling immigration-related matters.

President Trump’s recent Executive Order targets sanctuary jurisdictions like Minneapolis, threatening federal funding cuts for non-compliance with immigration policies. Mayor Jacob Frey defended the city’s stance on not enforcing federal immigration laws, emphasizing the separation ordinance protecting residents’ information.

Several Democratic Minnesota officials, including Rep. Ilhan Omar and State Sen. Omar Fateh, have supported sanctuary laws and criticized the Trump Administration’s immigration policies. The ongoing clash between the White House and Minnesota leaders highlights the broader debate on immigration enforcement and sanctuary city policies.

As the issue continues to unfold, the fate of Llangari and the implications for immigration enforcement in Minnesota remain uncertain. The Trump Administration’s crackdown on sanctuary cities and the state’s commitment to upholding constitutional rights will likely shape future discussions on immigration policy and law enforcement cooperation.
