World champions Stellato-Dudek, Deschamps skate to 3rd straight pairs national title

Reigning world champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps secured their third consecutive national pairs title, despite a slightly shaky free skate performance compared to their usual standards. Stellato-Dudek earned a total score of 207.06, narrowly surpassing silver medallists Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud, who scored 204.96.

The dynamic duo of Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps delivered a solid free program, earning them a score of 130.75, the second-highest score in the free skate event, just behind Pereira and Michaud’s impressive 134.53. Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Ethier claimed the bronze medal, maintaining the same podium order as the previous year.

In the men’s competition, Roman Sadovsky emerged victorious, reclaiming the national title after last winning it in 2020. Performing to music from the movie “Interstellar,” the 25-year-old from Vaughan, Ontario, scored 158.91 in his free program, accumulating a total score of 240.35 overall. Local favorite Anthony Paradis of Boisbriand, Quebec, secured the silver medal with a total score of 225.56, while David Li from Richmond, British Columbia, clinched the bronze with a total score of 197.99.

Meanwhile, Madeline Schizas took the lead in the women’s competition after a stellar performance in the short program. The 21-year-old from Oakville, Ontario, wowed the crowd with her captivating “Lion King” program, earning a score of 70 points. Ottawa’s Katherine Medland Spence followed in second place with 61.99 points, and Montreal’s Sara-Maude Dupuis secured the third spot with 59.81 points.

Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, the three-time ice dance champions, dazzled the audience with their captivating rhythm dance performance, scoring 91.84 in their Beach Boys-themed routine. Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha claimed the second spot with a score of 86.42, while Alicia Fabbri and Paul Ayer settled for third place with 78.53 points.
