World junior sexual assault case back in court
Legal Arguments Underway in Sexual Assault Case Involving Members of Canada’s 2018 World Junior Hockey Team
The courtroom in London, Ont. is currently buzzing with legal arguments in the high-profile sexual assault case involving five members of Canada’s 2018 world junior hockey team.
The players’ lawyers have made it clear that their clients intend to vigorously defend themselves against the allegations, with all five individuals expected to plead not guilty.
While several weeks have been allocated for legal arguments leading up to the trial, details from these proceedings are currently under a publication ban to safeguard the accused’s right to a fair trial.
The jury trial is set to commence on April 22 next year. The accused individuals, namely Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton, were charged with sexual assault earlier this year for an incident that allegedly occurred in June 2018.
In addition to the sexual assault charges, McLeod is also facing an additional charge of sexual assault for being a party to the offense.
