Ground stop issued at DIA, hundreds of flights delayed

Ground stop at Denver International Airport causes delays for over 300 flights

More than 300 flights headed in and out of Denver International Airport were delayed on Sunday, partially fueled by an evening ground stop issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.

As of 6:15 p.m. Sunday, 335 flights had been delayed and three had been canceled, according to flight tracking software FlightAware.

Reason for the ground stop

The FAA issued a ground stop for unspecified “runway construction” at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The traffic management program is expected to last through 6:45 p.m., but could be extended, according to the agency.

Impacted airlines

Southwest delayed 133 flights, followed by 115 United flights, 48 SkyWest flights and 11 Delta flights, according to FlightAware. Another nine airlines delayed between one and nine flights.

All three flights canceled on Sunday were United flights, according to FlightAware.
