Driver Arrested for Striking Five People on Walkway at Toronto Metropolitan University

Police have apprehended a driver who allegedly hit five individuals on a walkway at Toronto Metropolitan University in April. The incident occurred on April 18th around 2 p.m. on Nelson Mandela Walk, a pedestrian pathway on the TMU campus near Yonge and Gerrard streets.

According to Toronto police, the victims were seated on a bench when the 23-year-old man drove his car towards them. Initially, authorities reported four victims, but later confirmed a fifth individual was identified in the days following the incident. Fortunately, none of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.

At the time of the event, police suggested that the driver may have intentionally targeted the group and that he possibly knew one of the individuals on the walkway. Subsequently, Toronto police announced in a news release on Friday that the man was arrested after a road rage incident in the Morningside Avenue and Highway 401 area on Thursday.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, sexual assault with a weapon, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, three counts of assault with a weapon, and four counts of failure to comply with probation.

This alarming incident serves as a reminder of the importance of pedestrian safety and the need for vigilance while navigating public spaces. Authorities are urging the community to remain cautious and report any suspicious or reckless behavior to law enforcement promptly.
